What Logs Do We Keep?
« on: June 15, 2009, 07:40:48 PM »
As I had an email from a member concerned about their privacy while using Warez-DnB I thought I would publicly announce what information we keep on users (it's no secret).

Warez-DnB isn't a huge site, we don't have a massive budget and we try to conserve space on the server for as much content as possible, logs etc fill this space with pointless junk, that's why their either not kept or automatically deleted on 24 hour cycle.

So what information do we keep?

  • We keep a record of the last known IP address a user logged in from, this is for moderation purposes.
  • We keep your email on record for password reset purposes.
  • Anything you've put on your profile or any posts you've made etc (obvious stuff)

That's it!

We have no problem at all with the use of temporary email addressess http://www.guerrillamail.com/ however it is a users sole responabilty to use an inbox which will allow them to read their reset email password if they ever need to use this feature. There is no way to reset your password without access to the inbox, no admin or moderator will ever reset a password. If you forgot your password and didn’t have access to your email address you'd have to register a new account.

We do not keep any comprehensive logs of what users are doing or have done, apart from the information you can see on the boards (obviously)

As none of the Rapidshare links on the boards are made into hyperlinks (by design) Rapidshare has no way to see Warez-DnB as the referer and we have no way to track if a user clicks or subsequently downloads any Rapidshare links.

In closing we are trying to store as little information about users as possible while keeping fundemental services running. There are a couple of trade offs we've had to deal with but we think we've got a good balance.

I hope that clears up any questions users have. Feel free to reply to this thread if anything isn't clear.

Juo :)
